About the City
Elmira Ontario
Even though it's the largest town in the Woolwich Township, Elmira still retains its small town feel and old-world roots. It's not uncommon to see Old Order Mennonite buggies driving along the roads, which are also marked with roadside stands and markets selling fresh produce directly from the farms that surround the town. Walking and hiking trails also abound for those who want to take in the beautiful Elmira landscape.
Downtown Elmira is full of unique shops and restaurants as well as a theatre – the Elmira Theatre Company, which puts on four shows every year. The downtown is also the central location for Elmira's many festivals, including the Maple Syrup Festival, which along with maple syrup offers antique and craft shows, a petting zoo, dog show and much more, and draws over 60,000 people each year.
In a town like Elmira, one of the greatest things you can do is get out and try new things. The Elmira & District Curling Club is a popular destination, offering both competitive and social leagues. The Woolwich Memorial Centre offers even more opportunities for physical fitness, with an indoor walking track, twin arenas, a fully-equipped fitness centre and a pool. For those who simply want to get out and socialize, the Centre also offers a café and community centre.
