Enjoying Fall in Ontario
Explore the beauty of the season in your city or town
There's something about fall that brings out the best in communities – the colours on the trees are beautiful and the fresh, cool air and lingering sunny days are enough to make us want to get out and enjoy the outdoors before the cold of winter forces us in.
Central and Southwestern Ontario are hives of activity in the fall, so for those of you living in the area, be sure to get out and look for these types of events in your area:
- Apple Picking. Apple picking is a popular pastime in the fall. Whether you're living in Waterloo, Cambridge, Orillia or other cities across Ontario, you're nearly always within a short drive to pick-your-own orchards, so take advantage of this great way to enjoy the outdoors and stock up on fresh, delicious, healthy produce.
- Harvest Festivals. As the produce season comes to a close, many farmers take the opportunity to celebrate the season with harvest festivals that include corn mazes, hay rides, cooking contests and more. Just a short drive out of Cambridge is the St. George Apple Harvest Festival, which is full of delicious treats and diverse entertainment, while those living at apartments in Guelph, Fergus and Elora may want to keep the Harvest Home Festival on their list for a day of demonstrations, including blacksmithing, rope making and much more.
- Scenic Tours. The fall colours are always so beautiful, particularly in Orillia and other areas in Muskoka country. People come from all over for tours and overnight packages, but if you're lucky enough to live in Orillia or Midland apartments, you can take them in every day. If you're in Southwestern Ontario, you may want to put a creative twist on seeing the sights with a ride on the historic Guelph Junction Express train, a 2-hour tour that takes you through the natural landscape or the Central Waterloo Railway running from downtown Waterloo to the village of St. Jacobs.

Gearing Up for the Holiday Season
Though it may seem too soon to think about it, many holiday activities begin to get underway in the fall season, and you may want to take advantage of them before the holiday season gets too hectic. Craft festivals and local art shows are always cropping up in the early to late fall, and are a great way to begin crossing items off your holiday shopping list while also supporting your community.
